The Cookie Walk

This was the very first year I went to the cookie walk. I only went because my husband, Andy, had gone last year and made me my own special tray of goodies. So, in the spirit of the yummy cookies, here’s what I’ve learned about the Cookie Walk & United Methodist Women (UMW).

The UMW was formed to support women and children in the US and abroad. The Cookie Walk is an annual event and supports this mission at all levels, from within our church to global UMW programs. Some of these programs include supporting Church Women United, Pregnancy Resources, Churches United food pantries, the Amen Clothing Closet, and Iowa UMW supported shelters (Bidwell Riverside, Shesler Hall and Hawthorn Hill). Your support impacts women and children all over the community, state and world!

Brenda King, UMW President, notes that as one of the few cookie walks left in the area, our cookies go fast! There was a line from Brandt Hall to the nursery before the doors opened. Shoppers enjoyed the brightly colored cookies, delicious confections and treats that our congregation generously donated.

The UMW raised approximately $1,000 from the event and will be donating $400 of that towards the Endowment for Children in Poverty in Foreign Countries, which has currently been used to support The Joseph School in Haiti.
