During the last 50 years of this church’s existence, there have been some highs and some lows. But the highest of the highs may have been the beautiful weddings held in this building.
Most of us have watched the beauty, the ceremony, the pageantry, and deep love. The same old words spoken, but each time it seems new. The candles and altar may look the same, but the joy of two hearts coming together is new each time. The dress styles change, the type of music changes, the sermon is different, but it is the same expressions of love on the faces of the bride and groom.
Perhaps it is appropriate that we celebrate this kind of love so often at Christ Church. For this is a reflection of the love of Jesus. It is a reflection of our love for each other.
The marriage ceremony is the beginning of a new family. Yet, they are already part of our family; our Christ Church family. Perhaps you have attended 50 years, or perhaps only a month. By entering that door you are joined with us as a large family of God.
When you think about it the membership vows, the baptism vows and the wedding vows are very similar. In each case we promise to be part of the family and to put the needs of others above our own.
That is what we at Christ Church are all about; meeting the needs of others. That is what weddings are all about. That is what love is all about. That is what Christ is all about.
