One tradition of many congregations is an annual church picnic. We at Christ Church are no different. While Rev. Craig Peters was our pastor it was a tradition for those who rode motorcycles to meet at the church after services and ride out to the picnic together. (The rest of us put potato salads and peanut butter bars in our cars and mini-vans and drove out.)
On July 12, join us after the services for a picnic at Scott County Park—via motorcycle, minivan, mommy-mobile or whatever mode you prefer! Follow the signs that say “Christ Church” and join us for a time of fun, food & fellowship. Bring your own table service and a salad or dessert. Meat and drinks will be provided! We’ll have a brief program with Pastor Peters and hear some of the tales of Christ Church.
Two weeks later, on July 26, the United Methodist Men will be hosting a Leonard Lump dinner featuring “Wampus Cat”. That’s what our former pastor Rev. Dr. Jim Campbell called the dinners when he was here. If you’re asking ‘who is Leonard Lump and what is Wampus Cat?’, you’re not alone. We’ll have to ask Pastor Campbell when he is here.
The United Methodist Men assure us that they have the situation under control and it will “taste like chicken”. We’ll have a short program with Pastor Campbell and hear some of his stories.
Plan on staying for the luncheon immediately after the services and you could even get to help us set up or tear down. A free-will offering will cover the luncheon cost.
