Christ Church IS making a difference at Buchanan.
Buchanan Elementary has been feeling very loved and supported by Christ Church. These next 500 words are to celebrate our amazing partnership and to thank the countless volunteers who support Buchanan Elementary School. Those of you who are not able to be at the school are still making a difference through your financial generosity.
Super Students is a student of the month program sponsored by the Christ Church Men's’ Group. It is always a highlight for the students. Two students from each classroom are recognized for positive attitude. During the Super Student presentation, the students are presented a certificate and popcorn to take home. The name of one boy and one girl are drawn to become the Special Super Students. As the Special Super Student, they receive a $10 Walmart Gift Card, select a book to be donated to the library in their honor, and lead the High-Five parade while wearing Super Hero capes. Christ Church received a sweet thank you from one of the students chosen this month.
Christ Church volunteers along with school staff and parents worked together to make Fall Family Festival a fun night for over 500 people from the Buchanan community. Amazingly the walking tacos and popcorn Christ Church served did NOT run out! The students and teachers have continued talking about what a great time they had and how wonderful it was to see Buchanan families enjoying a night together.
Another way Christ Church is partnering with Buchanan is through providing teachers meals during parent-teacher conferences. Catered meals were provided both nights for the Buchanan staff that were at the school over 12 hours without a break.
Volunteers with the Food Pantry (1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month) had the largest turnout to date with 17 families. It was a busy and long morning, but very rewarding to see new families take food home to provide for their families.
I’m excited to celebrate yet another moment where Christ Church supported Buchanan. Courageous leaders went with the 4th grade class on a field trip to the Putnam Museum. Without these volunteers they would not have been able to have such a hands-on experience.
One of my other favorite moments to share is our Christ Church mentors. Each week 13 adults leave the walls of the church and spend their lunch hour with a student. Sometimes these lunches involve Candyland or Uno while others involve heavy conversations about school stress and home life.
To continue bragging about how great Christ Church volunteers are, here are a couple emails I received this week from teachers…
- “Thank you Christ Church for ALL you do for us!!”
- “We love Christ Church!”
- “Christ Church is amazing with how you treat us.”
- “We are SO spoiled, and appreciate every bit of it! We are so fortunate to have Christ Church in our lives! You’re all the best!”
Thank you to everyone who has ever volunteered at Buchanan. It has been encouraging to see so many familiar faces when I am working with families in our community.
