REVIVING THE WORLD AT BUCHANAN

Christ Church continues to “Revive the World” through our partnership with Buchanan Elementary School. On the first and third Wednesday mornings, the Food Pantry provides food for 16 families. Each time volunteers help unload the food, welcome the families and assist them with ‘shopping’ the shelves. Up to 15 volunteers are needed each time to help with this wonderful outreach to these Buchanan families. With all the wonderful volunteers committed to this mission, there are still weeks that more volunteers are needed. Contact April Buske aprilb@christchurchdavenport.org, if interested. Christ Church Men’s group has a special relationship with Buchanan school. The fourth Monday of each month, the Men’s group sponsors students of the month. Two students from each classroom are chosen by their teacher for being consistently respectful, responsible and safe. The Men’s group is also currently working with the school administration to provide a gaga pit for the students to use during recess.

Each school day, lunch buddies from Christ Church meet with Buchanan students to be an encouragement in their life. If you are interested in volunteering as a GAP buddy, contact Helen Parks by email at helenp@christchurchdavenport.org . No special skills are needed, just show up and spend a little bit of time each week with your student. With just a small sacrifice of your time, you can make a huge impact in the life of a child. Christ Church also provides volunteers for one-time events at the school. Buchanan had over 100 students come out to the Math and Reading Tailgate on Thursday, February 1st. The students enjoyed snacks, making pennants for their favorite team and math and literacy games. Five volunteers from Christ Church helped make the Tailgate Party a fun afternoon for these students and their families.
We also provided four volunteers to chaperone the 4th grade field trip to the Putnam Museum. On Thursday, February 8th, these adults assisted the teachers with the different projects the students were able to enjoy at the museum.
