David Aust became a member of Christ Church on February 25th, 2018.
David is actually not new to the church; he has been around since childhood and had not taken the step of becoming a member. I discovered this as David talked with Helen and me about feeling called to become a pastor. In the United Methodist Church you must be a member to begin the ordination process. Please keep David in your prayers as he discerns God’s direction for his life. I had David join because I did not want to slow down his process and I wanted to encourage anyone else that is a part of Christ Church but not yet a member to prayerfully consider taking this step of faith as well.
Pizza with the Pastors is an opportunity for you to get to know Helen and me and learn more about Christ Church. Our next Pizza with the Pastors will be April 15th at noon. After that, those who want to become members will have a two-class course to learn about our beliefs and practices as a United Methodist Church. These will be held the evenings of April 23rd and 30th. Then, they will join the church on a Sunday morning.
Helen and I are not focused on making more members or more Methodists. We want to focus on making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. (We do teach a Methodist approach to discipleship, but Jesus is our focus.) Becoming a member is not about adding to our numbers or checking off some box.
However, it is a step in discipleship to make a commitment to the Body of Christ through a local church. We are not making the journey of discipleship on our own, but with a community of believers. Becoming a member of Christ Church is your opportunity to learn more about our mission and to publicly commit to our mission. It is a way of saying that you believe you are called to the mission and ministry of Christ Church. If you believe God is transforming the world through Christ Church and you want to be committed to see that continue then membership may be a step for you.
